Frank Sinatra announced his retirement in 1971 but turned to Broadway/Sondheim for his comeback album
"Ol' Blue Eyes is Back" just a couple of years later.

Not sure if Sinatra could be classified as a "fading" pop star in the 1970s his recording of NEW YORK,NEW YORK became a huge hit
probably Kander & Ebbs' first song to get airplay since 'Cabaret"

Judy Collins was in her recording prime a few years after Frank recorded SEND IN THE CLOWNS - I seem to remember it getting airplay in 1975

Did Elvis record anything from Broadway ? He'll be gone 40 years this August
