I'm middle-aged. I work in theater. It also consumes a healthy chunk of my life. I experience the same ennui and boredom you do. I dearly wish that I was bowled over by as much I used to be. But I still go. And rarely do I leave feeling like it was a wasted experience.
Having said that, I can't disagree that there are also lots of other amazing things to see and do outside a playhouse. But I can't imagine anyone having more to say about Soulpepper's work that would sway you. I really would think that Jesse Green's piece addressed a lot of your concerns (about KIM'S CONVENIENCE at least) and would urge you to take the risk.
Whether it's the sunset or the sitcom, have a great evening :).
