It was wonderful at the Public.....it did not transfer well. Got lost in the Belasco. Also the edited TV performances (shortened Keys) weren't engaging.

Perhaps some of the rumors to bring it back stem from the current vogue of how am I supposed to say it, "racially blind" casting. I'm probably wrong, but PS was the first show I recall where casting (other than the band) was diverse.

It strikes me that the show didn't win best musical in part because at the time, it wouldn't be considered something that regional theaters would be interested in doing...it wouldn't support touring casts....I don't know Stew personally, but my sense is that he probably wasn't nearly as charming nor play the game as well as as LMM during the Tony press junkets...which probably didn't help either.
