Landau won his Oscar for "Ed Wood" on March 27, 1995. Later that year he directed "The Warm-Up," a one-man show starring veteran comic Sammy Shore, based on Shore's autobiography, and co-written by Shore and Rudy DeLuca (or by Paul Lewis and DeLuca, depending on your source).

It was produced by the American Jewish Theatre, and it ran November 4 - December 3, 1995 at the Susan Bloch Theatre on West 26th Street.
