I thought it was a major omission, since the piece presents the great Hong as an actor for hire who lived entirely at the mercy of a capricious film industry. In actuality, he was an artist who helped shape the creative lives of an entire community*. As well-meaning as the segment was, and it wrings tears with his story of his abuse on-set, it dilutes a great career's achievements.
*To underscore this point: Over seventy-five percent of all Asian Pacific performers in the acting unions living in Los Angeles have worked at EWP.
